Overview
The Machame Route is the most scenic path to Uhuru Peak, and our extra acclimatization day gives climbers a meaningfully higher summit success rate than the rushed 6-day version. Full mountain crew, quality camping equipment, and guides who've summited hundreds of times.

The itinerary

Machame Gate to Machame Camp
Trek through montane rainforest, 5–7 hours.

Machame Camp to Shira Camp
Climb onto the Shira Plateau, moorland terrain, 4–6 hours.

Shira Camp to Barranco Camp
Acclimatization day via the Lava Tower (climb high, sleep low), 6–7 hours.

Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
The Barranco Wall, then a shorter day into Karanga, 4–5 hours.

Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
Short trek to base camp, rest and prepare for the summit push, 4 hours.

Summit Day — Barafu to Uhuru Peak, descend to Mweka
Midnight start, summit at sunrise, long descent, 12–15 hours total.

Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate
Final descent through rainforest, certificates and transfer to Arusha, 3–4 hours.
